Season of Lent
The Christian season of Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, February 14. This year, we are naming the Lenten season, 40 Days to Life: The Disciple’s Journey to Easter.
For this Lenten season, we will use the 40 days of Lent to spend time reading scripture in the Book of Mark as an intentional practice of discipleship. The ultimate purpose of Mark’s Gospel is to present and defend Jesus’ universal call to discipleship. For Mark, discipleship is essentially a relationship with Jesus.
Mark teaches us that a relationship includes trusting Jesus, confessing him, observing his conduct, and following his teaching. For each weekday, we will provide scriptural readings along with a short commentary that will take us through the book of Mark by Easter.
