Following a Star

The Wisemen of old followed a star and found a king. What do you suppose motivated them to leave their homes in quest of a king? These people were gentiles, not Jews seeking a Messiah. Whatever prompted their coming to Bethlehem, they did not leave disappointed. The season of Epiphany, which began January 6, reminds us that God excludes no one and neither should we. We are to reach out to all persons, that they too might find the King of Kings. We do well to remember that God sent the star to the gentile Magi to show them the way to Jesus. Which star are you following and where is it leading you? Are you delighted with its direction or does it leave you frustrated? If your star is anything or anyone other than the Holy Spirit, you will be disappointed and your quest questionable. Forget the GPS, the star in the soul will give direction to those who walk with Jesus. Perhaps you know someone who is "following other stars." Perhaps you know someone who is down on life. Perhaps you know someone who runs from interest to interest but is never satisfied. If you do, then share the light of your star so that you both will find and follow the King who is Jesus the Christ, the Son of the living God. "O star of wonder, star of night, star with royal beauty bright, westward leading, still proceeding, guide us to thy perfect light."
